Introduction
Creating a rule in the Tag Library lets you control who can see specific products, collections, or pages in your store. This is how you create secret products, exclusive collections, or gated content without coding, Shopify Flow, or manual tags.
Here’s how to set up your first rule step by step.
Steps to Create a New Rule
- Open Roadmap → Tag Library
- From Shopify admin, go to Apps → Roadmap → Tag Library.
- Click Create Rule.
- Name Your Rule
- Enter a Tag name (this is for admin reference only).
- Example: “VIP Set – NZ & UK only”.
👉 This helps you identify the rule later. Customers will never see this name.
- Choose What It Applies To
- Select whether the rule applies to:
- Specific products (search or browse to select items).
- Specific collections (search or browse to select collections).
👉 Example: Apply the rule only to your VIP Collection.
- Decide What Ineligible Customers See
- Choose where to redirect customers who don’t qualify.
- Options include your homepage or any page (e.g. /pages/early-access).
👉 Example: Redirect non-VIP customers to the homepage if they try to access a secret product.
- Set Customer Eligibility
- Decide who the selected products/collections are visible (or hidden) for:
- All customers
- Logged-in customers
- Logged-in customers with order history
- Logged-in customers tagged with [X]
- Customers from specific countries
- Members (Loyalty)
- Non-members (Loyalty)
👉 Example: Make a collection visible only to customers from New Zealand and the UK.
- Choose Visibility
- Select whether the products/collections are:
- Visible → shown only to eligible customers.
- Hidden → hidden from eligible customers.
👉 Example: Hide a “Wholesale Only” product from regular shoppers.
- Set Active Dates (Optional)
- Choose when the rule starts (date + time).
- Optionally set an end date.
- Decide what happens when the rule is inactive:
- Products are Visible
- Products are Hidden
👉 Example: Schedule a limited-time secret product drop starting on April 4th at 5:25pm.
- Save Your Rule
- Click Save.
- The rule will run automatically in the background.
Example: VIP Regional Access Rule
- Tag name: Layering Set – NZ & UK only
- Applies to: Specific products (Layering Set)
- Eligibility: Customers from specific countries → NZ, UK
- Redirect ineligible customers: Homepage
- Start date: April 4, 2025, 17:25
👉 Result: Only customers in NZ and UK can view/purchase the Layering Set. Others are redirected to the homepage.

Summary
To create a Tag Library rule, enter a name, choose which products or collections it applies to, set eligibility rules (e.g. logged-in customers, members, or specific countries), and decide on visibility and timing. Once saved, Roadmap enforces the rule automatically — giving you complete control over secret products, gated collections, and exclusive drops.
