How do I edit or delete a tag rule?

Introduction

After you’ve created a rule in the Tag Library, you may want to update its conditions or remove it entirely. Roadmap makes it easy to edit, duplicate, or delete rules without needing to start over from scratch.

Editing a Rule

  1. Open Roadmap → Tag Library
    • From your Shopify admin, go to Apps → Roadmap → Tag Library.
  2. Locate the Rule
    • Find the rule you want to edit in your list.
    • Use the search bar if you have many rules.
  3. Click “Edit”
  • Adjust the settings as needed:
      • Change the products or collections the rule applies to.
      • Update customer eligibility (e.g. switch from “all customers” to “members only”).
      • Adjust visibility (visible/hidden).
      • Change the active dates.
    • Update the redirect page for ineligible customers.
  1. Save Your Changes
    • Click Save.
    • The updated rule takes effect immediately.

👉 Example: Change a rule so that a “VIP-only” product is now also visible to logged-in customers with order history.

Deleting a Rule

  1. Open Roadmap → Tag Library.
  2. Locate the Rule you want to remove.
  3. Click “Delete.”
  4. Confirm the deletion.

👉 Once deleted, the logic no longer applies. Any products, collections, or pages affected by the rule will return to their normal visibility.

Duplicating a Rule (Optional)

  • If you want to create a similar rule without starting from scratch, use Duplicate.
  • Then edit the duplicate to adjust conditions.

👉 Example: Duplicate a “VIP US Only” rule and change the eligibility to “VIP UK Only.”

Common Questions

  • Will customers notice if I edit a rule?
    • Yes — changes apply immediately, so visibility may change for eligible/ineligible customers.
  • Can I undo a deleted rule?
    • No — once deleted, you’ll need to recreate it. Use “Duplicate” if you want a backup before deleting.
  • What happens if I delete a rule that was active?
    • Products/collections/pages return to their default Shopify visibility.
  • Can I pause a rule instead of deleting it?
    • Yes — use the Active Dates setting to temporarily disable a rule without deleting it.
