Introduction
After installation, it’s a good idea to test Roadmap before going live. Testing ensures that your loyalty, reviews, subscriptions, bundles, and discounts are set up correctly and displaying as expected in your storefront.
This guide shows you how to run quick test scenarios for each feature.
Step 1: Use a Test Customer
- Create a test customer in your Shopify admin → Customers.
- Or place a test order with your own email address (use Shopify’s bogus gateway if you want to avoid real charges).
Step 2: Test Each Feature
Loyalty
- Place a test order.
- Check that points are awarded to the test customer.
- Try redeeming points for a discount or product.
- 👉 If points don’t appear, confirm that earning rules are active.
Reviews
- Submit a review on a product page.
- Check your Reviews dashboard in Roadmap to confirm it’s recorded.
- Approve/publish it and confirm it displays on the product page.
- 👉 If reviews don’t display, make sure the Review app block is added in your theme editor.
Subscriptions
- Add a subscription product to your cart.
- Complete checkout with a test customer.
- Check that a subscription record appears in Roadmap.
- 👉 If subscription options don’t show, confirm the product has a subscription plan assigned.
Bundles / Discounts (GWP)
- Add qualifying products to your cart.
- Check that the bundle discount or gift is applied.
- Complete checkout to confirm it’s recorded in the order.
- 👉 If discounts don’t apply, confirm the promotion is active and not expired.
Extensions (App Blocks)
- Open the Shopify theme editor.
- Add a Roadmap app block (e.g. loyalty widget, reviews section).
- Save and preview your storefront.
- 👉 If the block doesn’t show, double-check that it’s placed on the right template (product, cart, checkout).
Step 3: Verify Analytics
- Go to Roadmap → Analytics.
- Confirm that your test activity (orders, points, reviews, subscriptions) appears in the dashboard.
- 👉 Data updates in near real time, but may take a few minutes to display.
Common Questions
- Do I need to test every feature before going live?
- No — but testing your first feature ensures everything is working correctly before enabling more.
- What if my test order charged my card?
- Use Shopify’s test/bogus gateway to avoid real payments, or refund the test order after checkout.
- My widgets aren’t showing — what should I do?
- Check the Shopify theme editor to confirm the Roadmap app blocks are placed correctly.
