How do subscriptions integrate with loyalty (earning/redeeming points)?

Introduction

Roadmap integrates subscriptions with your loyalty program — so customers can earn points on subscription purchases and redeem rewards during checkout. This keeps subscribers engaged while rewarding loyalty at every step.

Here’s how earning and redeeming points works with subscriptions.

1. Earning points on subscription orders

Customers earn points automatically for each successful subscription payment — just like one-time purchases.

Key details:

  • Points are awarded based on the total amount paid, excluding discounts and taxes.
  • Customers earn points every billing cycle (e.g. every 4 weeks).
  • Points are credited after the order is processed, not before.

👉 This encourages ongoing engagement and retention from subscribers.

2. Redeeming points on subscriptions

Customers can redeem points only during checkout, and only for the first subscription order.

How it works:

  • Customers use their points for a discount at checkout (e.g. $10 off for 1,000 points).
  • The reward applies to the initial payment only.
  • Future recurring payments will charge the full subscription amount (unless a new reward is applied manually).

👉 Customers cannot automatically apply points to every billing cycle — only to the first purchase unless they re-subscribe or manually redeem again.

3. How to enable loyalty on subscriptions

If you're using Roadmap Loyalty:

  • Go to Loyalty → Settings
  • Ensure subscription orders are marked as “Eligible for Earning”
  • Enable checkout redemptions for subscription-eligible products

You can also:

  • Set whether points can be redeemed with subscription discounts
  • Exclude certain plans or tiers if needed

4. Tracking points for subscriptions

From the admin:

  • Go to Customers → Loyalty tab
  • You can view each customer's:
    • Points earned from subscriptions
