What is the Subscriptions feature and how does it work?

Introduction

Once a customer subscribes to a product, they can easily manage their subscription anytime through their account on your store. This gives them full control over their delivery schedule, frequency, and more — no need to contact support.

Here’s what they can do and how it works.

What customers can manage

Customers can log in to their account and:

  • View all active subscriptions
  • Change delivery frequency (e.g. from every 4 weeks to 8 weeks)
  • Skip a delivery
  • Pause or resume a subscription
  • Cancel a subscription anytime
  • Reschedule the next delivery
  • Update quantity or add products (if enabled)
  • View billing history and upcoming orders

How customers access subscription management

  1. Log in to their account on your store.
  2. Click on “Manage Subscriptions”.
  3. View a list of their active and past subscriptions.
  4. Click into a subscription to make changes.

✅ Tip: Make sure the "Manage Subscriptions" widget is added to your customer account page in the Shopify theme editor so customers can access it easily.

What subscription actions look like

From their subscription details, customers can:

  • Change frequency using a dropdown menu (e.g. 3, 4, 6 weeks)
  • Pause to temporarily stop auto-orders
  • Cancel the subscription entirely with a single click
  • Reschedule the next billing/shipping date
  • Add more products to an existing subscription (if enabled)

FAQs

Can customers change their delivery address or payment method?

 Yes — they can update both from their account. If needed, they can also contact support for help.

Can customers reactivate a canceled subscription?

 Not automatically — but they can place a new order and start a new subscription.

Will customers get notified before billing?

 Yes — they’ll receive reminder emails before upcoming charges and shipments (if enabled via Klaviyo or your email setup).
